Pregnancy – Week 22 Update

Writer's picture: AdminAdmin

Today (well actually yesterday, since I’m posting this a day late because of Memorial Day) I am 22 weeks pregnant and our little baby is the size of a coconut!

Progress Photos

I actually had Chris around to take some pictures of me, since he had the day off of work. I much prefer these to my sad attempts at selfies in our tiny bedroom mirror. 😉

Weight Gained

My scale at home says just about another half a pound or so, but we shall see what it says at the doctor’s office on Thursday. It always seems to be slightly different.

Workouts

I am still doing so much walking outside. Like I said last week, it feels the best to me right now. But I also got in a barre class, a yoga class, and some various strength training at home and at the gym.

Symptoms/Body Changes

My headaches and exhaustion have been coming back a lot this week. At first I thought my headaches could be attributed to dehydration, but then I realized I drink at least my body weight in ounces of water every day, so that can’t be it. I think they are actually coming from being so tired during the day. I have gotten back to taking naps some afternoons, just because it doesn’t seem possible to keep my eyes open until bedtime. I thought this wasn’t supposed to come back until the third trimester?! Our cats seem pretty happy with my extra time on the couch though….

Other than that, not too much have changed. I am still feeling really good overall and am trying my hardest to embrace the changes my body is going through. Oddly, I love my growing body especially now that it’s summer! And perhaps that is just because I don’t feel like I have to suck my stomach in like I typically do in tighter shirts and/or a bathing suit?! Regardless, I’ll take it. 🙂

Oh, and my nails are growing like crazy. I feel like I cut them every single week. My hair is growing a lot, too.

Movement

Like I said last week, I definitely feel our baby move around the most after I eat in the morning and at night, but I have also started to feel it randomly throughout the day, too. We went to my parents’ house to go in the pool for a while over the weekend, and our little buddy was rolling around like crazy while I was in the water! Chris, my mom, and a few other people have been able to feel it move, and Chris and I even saw a really big kick from outside of my stomach the other evening! I love feeling movement so much – it is definitely my new favorite part of each day and so reassuring.

Sleep

I think I am sleeping pretty darn good, but Chris would beg to differ haha. He says I am all over the place and leave him approximately six inches of space to sleep every night. Oops. But like I said, I feel like I sleep pretty good, except for when I get up to use the bathroom in the night and then it typically takes me a half hour or so to get back to sleep.

I have also been having some wild dreams. Sometimes I remember them in the morning, and sometimes I just know I was thinking about some real weird stuff all night. And sometimes they are so crazy that they actually wake me up!

Appreciating/Missing

I am really appreciating (and so excited about!) starting to actually get our nursery set up, which I will talk more about below.

I’m not going to lie – I so missed having a margarita by the pool on Memorial Day with my family! I feel like cocktails just go with a pool day. My dad was sweet and made me a virgin one, but let’s be honest – it’s not the same. 😉

Baby Items/Nursery

We are making such good progress on this category! Some of our friends very generously gifted us a bunch of baby products they have no need for anymore, so I spent a day cleaning it all and getting it organized. And then with the help of different friends (we have some great people in our life), Chris and I got our crib picked up from Buy Buy Baby and assembled it in the nursery! It was way simpler to put together than we thought it would be, and it really could not go more perfectly with the colors we have in the nursery so far. We are both so happy with it. I will be sure to share pictures once we get everything all set up, and we are ready to reveal the gender. 🙂

Looking Forward To

I always really look forward to my prenatal appointments, and I have another one on Thursday that I have been counting down the days until. Even though I can feel daily movements now, it is still so reassuring to hear the baby’s heartbeat every four weeks (soon to be every two weeks!). I also just love hearing my doctor or midwife say that everything is going well and that the baby and I are both healthy, so that is my same hope for this week’s check-up, too!

This is going to show how much of a grandma I am lately, but I am also really excited about the fact that I don’t have too much going on this week. We certainly have some fun things planned here and there, but I am way less busy than I have been the past few weeks, so I am really looking forward to some good naps throughout the week. 😉 I need to start to shift my schedule around to include more things in the morning and less at night like I did in the first trimester since I can’t seem to make it past 7pm and be a functional human anymore.

Next On To Do List

  1. Ask my midwife the list of like, 20 questions I have been saving in the notes section of my phone at my appointment this week.

  2. Actually spend some time talking with Chris about potential names!

  3. Start working through some legal/technical stuff – wills, life insurance, new budget, savings for baby, etc.
