Happy Friday! FINALLY. I am extra excited today since I am working from home in the morning and then heading to Grand Rapids around lunch-time to visit one of my little sisters at college. She dances for a local basketball team over there, so Chris and I are going to see her and her team perform in their last game of the season. And of course hit up a couple of good restaurants and bars and maybe even a yoga class while we are there, too. Just a quick trip – we will be home Saturday night, so still plenty of time to do things at home this weekend as well. The best of both worlds in my opinion! But I can’t wait to see my cute sister.

A lot of things made me smile this week. Not really sure where it came from, but for at least most of the week I found myself having a much more positive attitude than I otherwise would during a work week. I’m sure not going to question it too much, because I really hope it sticks around. With that being said, here are the five things that made me smile most this week:
1. Odd that turkey burgers made me smile, but I’m going to go ahead and say turkey burgers
This week I was pretty into cooking, and one of the recipes I made was turkey burgers with avocado and parmesan for Chris and I to take to work as lunches a few days. They are so simple and taste amazing. All you do is mash up 1/2 avocado with 1 lb. of turkey and then add in 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese. Then add any spices you want, mix it all together, separate into patties, and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes! So simple. I like to serve them on brioche buns with a slice of sharp cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, and sriracha. It’s so nice to have lunches prepped to take to work and to not even have to think about meal prep during the week. Not the prettiest picture in the world, but you get the point 😉

2. My cats
Certainly I have mentioned this before, but I have three cats. I promise I am not a crazy cat lady – I just have a hard time saying no to animals that need to be adopted. Recently my aunt gave me this big tower for the cats to climb on which they have been loving lately. They bring Chris and I so much entertainment, just running around and playing/fighting with each other while we watch TV. Although they drive me nuts sometimes, I’m really glad I have them. Two are pictured below, but the third one is quite large and doesn’t venture onto the climbing toy as much as the other ones do….. haha

3. Pretty sure this makes its’ way on the list almost every week, but a great yoga class
There are so many times I just want to lay at home after work, but when I force myself to get up and go to yoga, it turns my whole mood around. I flip flop between liking going better in the morning and at night. The morning is great, because it allows me to start my day out on such a positive, inspirational note. But at least lately I have been preferring the night-time classes, because it really helps me to let go of my day, go home with a clear mind, sleep great, and go into the next day with a blank slate. I have been toying with the idea of potentially doing a yoga teacher training in the near future? We shall see.
4. Seeing Beauty and the Beast
Wow – have you guys seen this? You definitely have to be a Disney fan to like it, because it’s completely aligned with the original, but I loved every single second of this movie. It had me smiling and tearing up and laughing and everything in between. Emma Watson was phenomenal and cute as a button. I’ve seen the original movie more times than I can count, but I was still somehow silently praying that the last rose petal didn’t fall before they fell in love? I’m pretty sure I will never be too old for Disney movies. And my kids are going to like them whether they want to or not 😉
So I have known about Kate Somerville, an esthetician in the Los Angeles area, for quite some time now. I have tried a few of her products and loved them, but recently heard an interview she did on a podcast I listen to (the LadyGang). She gave so many skin tips that I took legit notes on in my work notebook. I ordered a ton of stuff from Amazon after listening to her, but I also went to Sephora and bought her d-scar serum. I have so many little scars and lines and spots on my face that drive me crazy, and she claims that this product can help to reduce them. I have been using it for four days and I already see a very noticeable difference in my skin. It is smoother with a more even tone and seems to be leveling itself out. I am amazed! I will definitely continue to use this product and see what bigger results it can bring me.

I think that I am finally understanding that it is okay to be content with where I am at right now. Sure, my job is certainly not my dream career by any means. And my health and fitness is not at a level I love either, but I am feeling good lately, having lots of time to work on my own projects and spend with my family and friends, and even have some time left over for myself. Those are all really important things to me that I don’t want to start taking for granted any time soon. Courtney wrote this beautiful post a few days ago on “being in the middle” that worded it better than I ever could, but she really does have the same thought process that I do on mediocrity and that it is more than okay sometimes. Go read it if you have a minute. 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend! Eat some good food, cross some stuff off your to-do list that is stressing you out so you don’t have to worry about it anymore, and take as much time as you can to relax with family and friends.
What made you the happiest this week?
