Hey! I don’t have too much to say today, so I’m just going to dive right into the five things that made me the happiest this week:
1. Getting a new car
So this one isn’t as exciting as it sounds, but it certainly made me happy this week. Since I drive so little, it makes sense for me to lease a car (or so I’ve been told). I loved the last car I leased and was actually sad to see my lease coming to an end, so I ended up just leasing a nicer, newer version of the same thing! My old car had been in quite an accident over the summer and while it got fixed, it was never really the same again. It also only had front-wheel drive, so I have noticed a total difference in how my new vehicle drives with all-wheel drive and not ever having had any damage to it. I love it and am determined to keep it clean and pretty and with that “new-car smell” as long as I possibly can.
2. House hunting with my mom
Chris and I have been toying with the idea of moving for a while now, so my mom and I actually went to meet with a builder on Monday afternoon. We ended up loving the company and their model/floor-plans, and we have a realtor I have known for years and love, so I think we might actually be getting somewhere! It is obviously quite a process and we have a lot of big decisions to make, but it’s a step in the right direction. Just thinking about moving gets me so crazy excited. I do love where we live right now, but it just doesn’t feel like it’s “ours.” I lived here before I even knew Chris, and I really just want to build a home together. The location also isn’t super ideal for me, so I am really looking forward to getting the ball rolling on this one.
3. Taking a spin class with my sister
As I have mentioned quite a bit lately, I am getting really into the group fitness classes my gym offers. I have just found myself increasingly wanting to come up with my own workouts less and less, so group fitness classes are a great way to keep me motivated and active. My youngest sister Olivia has come to the gym with me a handful of times to try out different things, and I really thought she would enjoy the high-energy spin class I have been going to on Wednesday evenings. We went together this week and had a blast! It was so much fun to do that with her. It was even more fun to meet my dad and Chris afterwards for dinner at a nearby brewery…. 🙂
4. Simple meals
I tend to go through waves where sometimes I try out five new recipes in a week, but other weeks I just want to clear out all the food in our house and make whatever we can pull together with what we already have. This week was definitely one of those simple meal weeks. Our week looked like:
Breakfasts: eggs with veggies and sausage (Chris) and yogurt with berries, banana, and granola (me)
Lunches: big salad with shrimp (Chris) and chopped Mediterranean salad from Costco (me)
Dinners: roasted fish, sweet potato, and broccoli (M), spaghetti with marinara sauce, chicken meatballs, and garlic bread (T), out (W), roasted red pepper tomato soup with sweet potato, spinach, and homemade croutons (TH), and we are going out again tonight!
Although it was simple, everything was delicious, and it gave us room to do some serious grocery shopping this week to stock our fridge back up! It also gave me a break from cooking so much to help reset and to be excited to get back into it next week.
5. Keeping up with my to-do list
Ever since starting to use my Simplified Planner and reading A Simplified Life at the beginning of the year, I have found myself accomplishing so much more. I am able to have everything – to-do list, meal plan, blog schedule, calendar, workouts – in one place, and it allows me to concentrate my energy on actually getting things done, rather than wondering what I need to do next. I find myself moving items from day to day less and less and actually getting done what I set out to do that day. And it feels fantastic. If you are looking for some help in organizing your life, I would so highly recommend ordering this simple, yet effective, book off of Amazon.
I have also been trying to be extremely intentional with prioritizing what is important early in the day. By starting my day out with the most essential tasks, it leaves room for the things that will inevitably pop up later in the day. Then I am able to partake in those activities without feeling guilty, which is a beautiful thing. Now this certainly does not happen this way every day, but lately I have been finding it happen more days than not, so I count that as something! I used to be a big believer in making lists just for the heck of it, but now I am making my lists to bring ease to Chris and I’s life so that we have blank space in our calendar to spend as we wish. It makes me feel good to take things off of his plate so that our time at home is just that – ours.
__________
We have a few big things on the calendar this weekend (double date night with friends tonight, a family dinner tomorrow, and a Superbowl party on Sunday), but a lot of empty space in between, too. I am so looking forward to having some uninterrupted time at home with Chris. I am loving the group fitness classes I have been going to at our gym, but they basically eliminate three of our weekday evenings that we used to spend together. With his busy work schedule, sometimes the weekends are the only time we really have together all week long. I hope you get to spend your weekend with your loved ones, too. <3
