Thank the LORD it is Friday. I am one happy camper today. One of my sisters goes to the University of Michigan and is in a dance company, so I took the day to work remotely in Ann Arbor before her show tonight. It’s a really nice way to start the weekend – sitting in a coffee shop, people watching, and getting done what I need to do, rather than sitting at my desk in my office all day. We also have a dinner reservation tonight at one of my favorite restaurants that I am really, really looking forward to.
I’m not going to lie. This was a rough week. I had the hardest time writing this post than I have for any other one so far. It was very difficult for me to focus on the happy things this week. I spent most of my time being stressed out, mad, upset, and worried. However, I think these are the weeks in which it is most important to take a moment to consider the good things and how we can grow from the hard things.
With all that being said, here are the five things that have really stood out to me that made me happy this week:
1. A new mirror
A couple of weeks ago I went out to dinner with my dad and we ended up doing a little shopping at a Kirkland’s store afterwards. I found a large mirror (which I had been searching for anyway) on sale that perfectly matches my bedroom furniture and the frame of a picture I already have hung up, so I obviously had to get it. Chris hung it up for me on Sunday night and I love it! This is the first of many upcoming small changes that I want to make to our house. You know you’re getting older when home improvement is what you think about for your weekend activities. Up until this point I’ve only had smaller mirrors, so it’s really nice to be able to see my whole outfit for once. Here’s my pathetic attempt at an artsy photo. I swear, one of these days (really soon?) I’m going to have Chris start taking some real photos for me….
2. Our Ellen mugs that Chris got us for Christmas
So for anybody who doesn’t know, I am a HUGE Ellen fan. So much so that I was even on her show a couple of years ago. But that’s a story for another day. Anyway, one of the gifts I unwrapped on Christmas morning was two Ellen mugs – just like the ones she uses on her show. I was so excited! They are huge and perfect for making big cups of tea in. I’ve been really into this lemon mint tea lately that my mom gave me a box of a few weeks ago.
3. Bachelor night with my girlfriends on Monday
I’ve talked about it before (like in this post), but two of my best friends and I have been watching The Bachelor together every Monday night for a really long time. I really do hate how much I love this show, but I just can’t stop. One of my friends is an amazing cook/baker and made us a spinach artichoke dip tart thing and macaroon-ish snicker-doodle cookies. We had those along with some spiked sparkling waters that I’ve been into lately. I like this grapefruit flavor the best.
For any other Bachelor fans out there, who do you think is going to win this season? I am not the biggest Nick fan, although I do think he would have been perfect with Corinne. She got a bad reputation, but I thought she was honest and hilarious. I think Raven is a little too fun and Vanessa is a little too mature for him. My bet is that he doesn’t propose to anybody and ends up back on Paradise this summer….
4. A night out on Tuesday
Although I’m certainly a homebody, it is fun to have a date night out in the middle of the week once in a while. Chris is a big beer drinker and belongs to a beer society, so we went to a dinner on Tuesday where all of our courses were paired with a different beer. I’m a pretty picky eater and not a huge been drinker so it was way more enjoyable for him, but I got a vegetarian course substitution and came prepared with some wine, so it worked out great for me, too. It was really fun to try some new foods, drinks, and to do something different on a Tuesday rather than our usual gym/leftovers at home/Criminal Minds.
5. Joining a new gym
Ever since I got back into yoga a few weeks ago, I’ve been thinking about getting a membership. However, a yoga membership is very expensive and I already have a gym membership. So Chris and I decided to switch gyms to a nicer facility that has a lot more amenities than the one we were already going to – including a yoga studio with a full schedule of classes. We started going there last Friday and really like it so far. We were both saying that we want to go to a gym that gives us more of an activity and a lifestyle than just going there as quick as we can and getting it over with. I am going to try out one of their yoga classes this weekend, and I’m really looking forward to it!
________
I really hope you all have a great, relaxing, fun weekend and get to spend some time with those you love, eating and drinking delicious things and sleeping a lot. Because I know that’s what I sure plan on doing. The weekends always go by way too fast, and I’m really hoping that this one somehow magically lasts longer. I’m going to leave you with this super cute picture of two of my cats that I captured while they were being adorable and napping together this afternoon.
Bye!
