A Happiness Jar – Week 16

Happy Friday! I am excited it is the end of the week (duh), but I am also really excited that it is June. I love the start of a new month and have a goal for the next 30 days to really take care of myself. I feel like I have kind of let things go in the health and fitness department due to getting engaged and starting to plan a wedding in only a couple of months (which is a great reason in my opinion!), but with a hectic season coming up and a honeymoon where I’ll be in a bikini for virtually ten days, I really want to feel and look my best to have the energy to get everything accomplished with a positive attitude and to be confident in how I look while doing it. So June is my month to pull myself together, and I can honestly say that I’m really excited about it.
With that being said, here are five of my most favorite things from the last week:
1. Amazing, sweet friends
Since Chris and I getting engaged, I have realized even more than I already knew what great girlfriends I have. I hate this word, but I feel so blessed to have them. I’ve talked about before how sometimes I get stressed and worried about my relationships not being where I want them to be or think they should be, but I’ve really understood in the last month or so that I have people to hang out with, count on, laugh with, cry with, and to help me (and vice versa) that are just wonderful. I spent so much time on Monday night with one of my girlfriends and her and her boyfriend basically let Chris and I borrow half their closets to try on to potentially wear for our engagement pictures later in the week since I was freaking out that I had nothing to wear. And her boyfriend made us an awesome wooden personalized sign to use in our pictures and at our wedding. So nice. I appreciate them so much.
2. Trivia with some friends at a local bar
After a last minute invitation from my friend Beth to join her and her husband at a trivia night at one of our favorite breweries, Chris and I headed over to join them. Although I am absolutely terrible at trivia and basically useless, Chris is quite good and loved it. And I loved catching up with my friend and her baby. So it was a win-win situation and a different kind of Tuesday than we would usually have, which really helped to break up the week. It also helps that we had some really tasty beers and split some of their homemade pizza and a caprese salad which was out of this world.
3. Shameless
A TV show may seem like a lame thing to make me happy and be thankful for, but it really, really does. To be honest, I wasn’t super excited about starting to watch this show a few months ago, but I am so happy that my sister, dad, and Chris convinced me to. I love it. I will completely admit that it’s really raunchy and dirty at times, but it depicts such a real story for the family that it is about. You get so attached to the characters. And the writers really keep you guessing and tie everything together so well. I look so forward to watching it at night with Chris before we go to bed. I think we will catch up to everything that has currently aired this weekend, which I know will make me so sad to wait until the fall for new episodes. However, we do have a lot of Bloodline and House of Cards to watch on Netflix, so that should help a bit 😉
4. Getting my hair and makeup professionally done
I am embarrassed to say that the last time I think I got my hair and makeup done was for prom in high school! I was on the fence about getting them done for our engagement pictures, but my esthetician (and friend and girl who does my eyebrows) convinced me that these are pictures we will have forever and that I will be happy I did it and that I deserve to treat myself once in a while. So I did! I went to the salon I have gone to forever for other things and was so, so happy with the result. The whole process was really fun, too. And she was right – it was so nice to not have to worry about doing those things myself. All I had to do was put my clothes on and we were ready to go!

5. Chris and I’s engagement picture session!
Since we are both really low-maintenance and don’t typically dress up and actually dislike getting our pictures taken, we were kind of nervous about this engagement session. I am so happy to say that our photographer is so cute and sweet and did the best job at making us feel comfortable and (hopefully!) getting some amazing, natural, “us” shots. I was so surprised that I actually had fun taking the pictures. We wandered around a little town that we love, went to a restaurant that was one of our first dates, and then headed over to a nearby park. I actually think Chris did better than I did! 🙂 And now I am so excited for her to photograph our wedding in a few months, too. After the pictures we sat out on a patio and used a gift card for Kruse and Muer that my parents had given us for Christmas – it was awesome to have an already paid for dinner in June and enjoy some wine and seafood after a long day. I cannot wait to see the pictures!

__________
So there you have it! I know I’ve said this before and I really don’t mean to sound like a broken record, but I think it is so, so important to look back at all the good things from the last week (no matter how big or small) just to remind ourselves that even when we are stressed, frustrated, or whatever, there is so much good and light in our lives that we should be thankful for and deserve to recognize.
We have got a very busy weekend ahead, but purposely made no plans for tonight in order to have some time to relax and prep ourselves for the crazy days ahead. Fun things though! I am really excited to make some time to read my current book though.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend – see ya Monday 🙂
