Tuesday Nutrition/Fitness Recap

Today I thought I would give you guys a peek into what yesterday’s meals and workout looked like for me. Not only do I personally love reading posts like this, but it’s a good way to keep myself accountable for making some healthier choices this month.

Breakfast

I had a goal to get up and make Chris and I coffee protein smoothies yesterday morning, but instead I laid in bed until I had 10 minutes to get out the door for work. So that didn’t happen. Instead, I grabbed a flax seed maple oatmeal packet (from Costco!) and a banana and ran out the door. I made it after I had been at work for a while around 9:30am or so. Doesn’t look pretty, but it tastes delicious and actually kept me full for quite a while.

After that I made some coffee (I just drink it black) to sip on while I worked throughout the rest of the morning.

Lunch

I am super lucky to work about 3 minutes away from my house, so around 12:15 I headed home to make myself a salad for lunch. Again, I had good intentions to make a huge veggie salad with oil and balsamic dressing, but instead I felt like mixing romaine lettuce, grilled chicken, white cheddar cheese, and croutons with a parmesan garlic dressing. I also had a couple of veggie chips on the side dipped in a little bit of ketchup.

Snacks

I didn’t have too much of an appetite yesterday, so snacks were fewer than normal. After work I had some chips and salsa with some Costco lemonade on the side (if you haven’t tried it, please do – so good). The chips were something new to us that Chris found over the weekend, and they are so good! And seemingly healthy?

Usually I snack throughout almost the entire day and eat less big “meals.” Not sure why today ended up being different, but it just was.

Workout

I’m not very happy that my favorite barre class got moved from 5:30pm to 6:45pm so I probably won’t be going every single week anymore, but I still want to go once in a while. My mom and I went to class together last night and had so much fun. Rarely do I say that a workout class is more fun than it is work. And don’t get me wrong – it’s hard! But the instructor does such a good job of talking the class through the entire 60 minute class that it just flies by and feels great. Last night’s class had some new sequences in it which also helped to break up the hour and forced me to really think about what I was doing instead of just going through the motions.

Something that has been a little frustrating with my workouts lately is that I feel like I am not really on any sort of a schedule. It seems like some days I do 40 minutes at home in the basement at 6:30am, some days I go to a nighttime class, other days I do 10 minute bursts of exercises 5 times throughout the day, yoga classes in the middle of the day on a weekend, etc. Although I do love the variety, I want to be back on a schedule that I know I can count on soon. I’m still trying to find the balance of incorporating all the different things I like to do into that, but I know that if I can get myself back on morning workouts (fingers crossed!) I will have a much more enjoyable summer. To be honest, when it is so nice outside after work the last thing I want to do is go exercise. So sometimes I don’t, and then I feel like crap. Working on it though!

Dinner

Due to the barre class I went to, we didn’t end up eating dinner last night until about 8:30 which is super late for us. In an attempt to make some “different” dinners this week, when meal prepping on Sunday I decided to make Chris and I turkey lettuce wrap “tacos” one night. They actually turned out quite delicious! My co-worker gave me a homemade taco seasoning recipe (garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, sea salt, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper) that I used when cooking the turkey. We simply put the ground turkey in romaine lettuce leaves and topped with tomatoes, a Mexican cheese blend, our favorite spicy Kroger salsa, and guacamole. Fairly simple, healthy, and really delicious. I also had a glass of the apple wine that was leftover from the weekend.

________

Although not every day looks like the above (pretty good if you ask me), I’m trying really hard in the month of June to eat at home more and really be aware of what I put into my body. It is so evident when I have not really cared for a few days, because I really do start to feel terrible. I don’t sleep well, I have headaches, and I’m not not confident. I know that with summertime comes a lot of time in bathing suits, but also a lot of time sitting on patios eating and drinking for happy hour. Sometimes it’s hard for me to find balance that allows me to have fun, but still feel good, but if I ever totally figure it out, I’ll be sure to let you know how 😉

A few things that I have found to help in the meantime are:

  1. Drinking a TON of water

  2. Sweating every day, in whatever way you choose

  3. Walking

  4. Being outside

  5. Trying to incorporate an activity with regular nights out for wine with friends (ie. going for a bike ride to the wine bar instead of driving there)

  6. Going to the farmers market (I’m much more inclined to eat fresh fruits and vegetables if I see where they came from – I feel guilty letting them go bad and throwing them away, too)

Little things, but they at least help me out during the warm months when I really want to do nothing but lay in the pool in my bathing suit with a margarita!
