Wine Tasting and Bridesmaid Gifts

Good morning! Like always, I’m not crazy happy to be back at work today after a great weekend, but I’m not dreading it as much as usual due to an upcoming four-day weekend! Chris and I will be heading to a little beach town about 2.5 hours away and are really, really looking forward to it.

This weekend was full of wine drinking, making crafts, and watching Shameless – three of my favorite things.

Friday

We didn’t have any set plans on Friday night, and it was really nice to just come home from work and go for a run and have time to figure out what we felt like doing. After I showered and got ready, we decided to head to a local brewery for happy hour and to do some wedding (or, honeymoon….) planning. Is it bad that we are more interested in figuring out our honeymoon plans than our actual wedding plans? We accomplished next to nothing and ended up just talking and laughing and eating wings and drinking beer, but it was fun.

After that we went on an impromptu trip to Target to get some supplies for me to ask my friends and sisters to be a part of our wedding and then headed home to do some painting.

Saturday

I woke up on Saturday morning so excited to go to my favorite hot yoga class, but when I got to the gym I came to find that they had evacuated everyone to the parking lot due to a potential fire inside. I hung around in my car for a little bit before giving up on getting to class in time and headed home. I went downstairs to my little home workout area and did a HIIT workout tape and a yoga YouTube video. Not nearly as good as my class would have been, but it worked. Excuse the dust footprints on my yoga mat…..

After my workout I got ready and headed to meet my friend Clare for a “wine and food stroll!” About 20 restaurants within walking distance of each other participated and we just spent a few hours in the afternoon walking around from place to place and trying delicious samples. One of my favorites was this goat cheese and mushroom spread toast paired with a cabernet:

Both of our favorites from the day was this pear and apple crumble with a “boozy topping” and a sparkling white wine. I wish I would have taken a picture of the recipe and of what this wine actually was, because I would totally buy it again.

Once we finished that, I headed home to hang out with Chris, my sister Jenna, and her boyfriend Hayden for the night. Chris grilled us wings and I roasted potatoes for dinner and we played Cards Against Humanity and Rummikub all night. It was wonderful.

Sunday

Since Sunday rained/thunderstormed pretty much all day on and off, we were in a much lazier mood than usual. The morning started off really slow with lounging around the house and pulling out all of our summer clothes and packing away a bunch of the winter ones. Then I headed off to church to volunteer with the kids while Chris worked on some more stuff around the house. After church we met up at the gym to get a good workout in and then came home to do our usual Sunday activities of cleaning and meal prepping.

I also worked some more on my little bridesmaid gifts and actually finished them! They look so cute. No picture yet, but I will post one as soon as I pass them out to everyone.

We were so happy to take our time getting things done on Sunday, interspersed with watching Shameless and listening to the thunderstorm.

Later on Sunday evening we headed to my parents house for dinner. My dad made a bunch of stuff on the grill, and we just ate, played outside with the dog, and then sat around the fire outside playing games for a while.

_______

I was really sad to see the weekend end, but I am actually really looking forward to getting through with this week to get to our long weekend away. Now that we have our wedding date determined, we can actually start planning all the fun little details. It will be great timing to get away again, just the two of us, to talk about some of those little things that everyone else’s opinions can sway us so easily on.

Purposely, I didn’t plan too much this week. The last two weeks have been so hectic, that I just need a few days at home to simply just sit and catch up on a million tiny things that have been on my to-do list for a long time that I’ve just been pushing aside. I tried to set aside that time last week, but it just didn’t work. I think it’s so important to try to set aside time each week to just do nothing – nothing meaning reading, writing, napping, walking, or doing whatever resets you.

So this week I just want to focus on taking time for things. Whatever that may be. To just not rush through my life and appreciate the moments as they are. There are so many times throughout the day that I just want to be over, and I don’t wan to live my life that way. Just because I am still in a job that I am not passionate about, doesn’t mean that I should try to “just get through” the hours of 8am-5pm five days a week. That’s 45 hours of my week just erased. There are certainly ways to make the most of those hours and ensure that they’re not only serving me during that time, but in my personal time, too. So I am going to try my hardest (we’ll see how that goes…. ;)) to relax, breathe, and appreciate every moment I am given this week. And really especially appreciate the ones toward the end of the week when our little mini vacation comes 🙂

How was your weekend? What did you do?
