Good morning! Sitting down to write this post on Sunday evening before Chris and I head over to my parents house for dinner, I am feeling so grateful and blessed for the wonderful people I have in my life and the opportunities I have been given to not only grow myself, but to serve others, too. This was a another fun weekend, filled with great friends, time to relax at home, a few adventures, and a lot of good food. I’m going into this week feeling excited, positive, and ready to see some good things come out of it.
Anyway, Friday evening started out with a workout and then a pretty serious debate between Chris and I about what we wanted to eat for dinner. I will fully admit that I am the absolute WORST when it comes to the question, “What do you want to eat tonight?” I am that typical girl that you see in all the memes that says “Whatever you want!,” but what I really mean is that I have no idea what I want and I am going to be difficult with everything you suggest because I can’t make up my mind. We (I) couldn’t decide between going out to a nice dinner with my family (didn’t feel like getting dressed up), going out to a new Italian place by us that is more casual but we haven’t tried yet (felt bad going out but not with my family), making something at home (didn’t want to go to the grocery store or do any work), or ordering take-out. So we settled on pizza and salad after a way-too-long debate. All my fault. Sorry! But the pizza was really good, and we ended up meeting my family at the restaurant for dessert – so best of both worlds! And my favorite thing happened on Friday night – BIG storms. While we had nothing to do but watch Criminal Minds and go to bed. I was a happy camper.
Saturday morning started out with my favorite hot yoga class, which I am pretty sure was the hardest one that I have taken to date. I’m telling you – I thought I was in decently good shape before I started doing yoga, but turns out I am not. This class kicked my butt, but of course I left feeling way better than when I came. I know people have differing opinions about these heated vinyasa classes, but for me they just work. It makes my body feel detoxed and fresh and just gives me a general reset; I am obsessed. After yoga, Chris and I headed to brunch at Bar Louie for bottomless mimosas and a make-your-own omelet for me with broccoli, green peppers, onion, and cheddar cheese.
One of my little sisters who was home from college for the weekend ended up meeting us there, and after brunch we headed to Costco (aka heaven on earth) to do our weekly shopping. Honestly, we are just terrible at sticking to a list. We always get what’s on it, but end up getting a bunch of other random things that we don’t need – in this case, tennis shoes for me, a 1.5 liter bottle of champagne (WHY?), and pomegranate juice. I’m unsure why this happened, but I’m not mad about it?
Later on Saturday I met up with a good friend of mine for coffee (or tea) to just talk about catch up. We had a great time sitting in Starbucks just people watching and being super sad about the crazy SNOW going on outside when it was 70 degrees just two days ago. Michigan………
Saturday evening was simply eating salmon, macaroni, and broccoli we got from Costco, doing some cleaning, and surprise, surprise…watching more Criminal Minds. However, I am proud to say that we have finished season eleven and are now onto season 12, aka the CURRENT season! We will be caught up by next Wednesday’s new episode! So exciting for us, but no one else probably cares. Now for some context, we have gone through eleven seasons at about 24 episodes per season since July 2016. That is embarrassing and also makes us very proud at the same time.
Sunday started out as it always does, with going to church and then volunteering with the kids. One of my little girls learned how to braid and decided that she needed to practice on me – and I was very impressed with her!
After church Chris and I headed north about 30 minutes to a cute little town called Clarkston to pick up a cat condo from my aunt and to get another brunch at an amazing barbecue restaurant called The Union. I went the totally non-traditional route and got their macaroni and cheese, because it’s just too good to pass up.
There is a super cute little store next door that makes gourmet cupcakes, so of course we had to stop and get a chocolate peanut butter one to have later at home.
Once we got home, I made up a batch of these peanut butter protein balls that we both really like, with oats, peanut butter, flax seed, chia seeds, protein powder, cinnamon, and dark chocolate chunks.
They aren’t the prettiest things to make, but they’re really simple, really tasty, and are a healthy snack to have when I just want something quick to grab on the go.
And of course I had some hot cheetos while making them…..this was certainly not the healthiest of weekends.
They turned out really good, and I’m excited to have some easy snacks prepped for the week going into Monday.
Sunday night we went to my parents house for dinner, played some euchre, and then went bowling with one of my sister’s and her boyfriend. I am horrible at bowling, but Chris loves it, and we had a really fun time.
Thought for the Week
This is so, so important for me right now. I’ve spent a lot of time allowing my outward circumstances to control what I do, how I act, and my emotional well-being. From going to yoga on such a regular basis lately, I have become much more aware that I have all the control I need over myself, and I need to start exercising that to its’ fullest extent. My goal this week is to remember that I am allowed to put myself first and choose the circumstances I place myself in and the people I surround myself with, but I don’t have to let them control me.
What was the most delicious thing you ate over the weekend?
