Weekend Recap #2

Writer's picture: AdminAdmin

Good morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and that it seemed to last much longer than mine did. I feel like a broken record saying this, but every single Sunday I am amazed that it was just Friday afternoon. It’s amazing how that time just flies by, but then comes again in five more days. And repeats forever. I cannot wait for the day when weekends aren’t really a thing. When every single day is so lovely that there is no distinction between a work day or a vacation day. Long-term goal is to own a winery, but that’s a story for another day….

Chris took this picture of grape trees at a winery in Traverse City during their off-season last November 2016

Friday night was really fun. I started babysitting the sweetest three little girls when I was 16 and now only see them once in a while, but got to hang out with them for a few hours on Friday while their parents went out. Although it makes me sad how fast they are growing up, it’s amazing to see how their personalities have developed so differently and how smart, polite, and hilarious they are. We spent the evening ordering Jets pizza (my diet was obviously over at this point), making cards for their parents for their birthdays, watching Finding Dory, and playing Life (since when did that become like a two-hour long game…?).

Saturday morning started out just the way I like it: sleeping in (for me this means like, 8am) and a hot yoga class. Now it’s probably been five years since I have regularly practiced yoga – a class here and there, but nothing serious. While I was sitting at my favorite wine bar a few months ago, someone randomly gave me a card for a free class at a studio near me called Life Yoga. I’ve been holding onto the card since then and avoiding going, but finally went on Saturday morning – and I am SO glad I did. The teacher was wonderful and not only taught the class well and gave great corrections/adjustments, but she had some really inspiring words, too. It seemed like she knew exactly what I needed to hear, talking about how we fixate on the one wrong thing in our lives and in turn cannot fully enjoy even the happiest moments. She encouraged the class to work on being present, grounded, and letting go – probably the three most discussed principals in any yoga class I’ve ever been to, but nonetheless a very necessary reminder. The class was heated with the room at 85-95 degrees, so I left feeling sweaty, limber, and just clear-headed for the first time in a long time. I ended up buying a 15 days for $15 pass for new students to test out a few more classes over the next two weeks. I know I’ve only been to one class so far, but would highly recommend trying out this studio if you live in the area!

After yoga, Chris and I had a super lazy day. He made me delicious Kodiak cake protein pancakes (a new mix we got from Costco and LOVE) with berries, we watched some Criminal Minds (surprise, surprise), browsed Costco for a while and smiled the whole time (because how can you not in that store), organized some clothes (a by-product of the new shelves and storage boxes from Costco), went to an outdoor mall near us to do a little shopping/drink a little wine/eat a little cheese and pesto plate, and came home to lay on the couch for the rest of the night.

Sunday was also my favorite kind of day. The church service was wonderful and I got to go with a friend of mine who I haven’t seen in a few months. Then I volunteered with the kids and we did a valentine exchange which was super cute (and I came home with some fun-dip’s which made me real happy). After that the best part of my day came when Chris and I went to Bar Louie for brunch, including bottomless mimosas. Delicious. The rest of the day was filled with a little cleaning, a lot more Criminal Minds (embarrassing, but we are obsessed), ordering some Chinese takeout, a bottle of Kirkland Zinfandel (we have been loving the Kirkland Cabernet for a long time and picked this up over the weekend and it’s really good!), and watching the Grammy’s. All I have to say is Beyonce <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

I think this was one of my favorite weekends I can remember having in a very long time. It was filled with all my favorite things and people, but I also had plenty of time to just relax, read, and take care of myself. I smiled so much and am going into this week with a great attitude. <3

Thought for the Week

I got a new phone over the weekend and while cleaning out all my old pictures I came across the above quote. My goal is to base this entire week off of that thought and really work on living each day for what it is and not worrying about what has already happened or what could tomorrow.

What was the best part of your weekend? Do you do yoga/what is your favorite type of class?
