Weekend Recap

Good morning! Although I’m not fully excited for it to be Monday morning (mainly because Chris and I are only on the second day of a 7-day clean eating/no alcohol week), I am determined to make this a good week.

This weekend was really low-key, but fun, too. I feel like the older I get the more I receive pleasure from doing mundane activities (cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry, etc.) that I know will make the rest of the week less stressful and more relaxing. Although I definitely don’t want to do them in the moment, I know the immediate sense of gratification I will feel once they’re done, so I try my hardest to always carve out time on the weekends to do them.

On Friday night, Chris and I went to my parents house to have dinner and play Rummikub, because we are wild.

Saturday morning started out with a workout where I focused on cardio and glutes. After that I had a massage scheduled (!!) which was absolutely wonderful and helped to remove a lot of tension that’s been building up in my upper back, shoulders, neck, and head. I ran errands all afternoon and was super proud of myself for only buying what was on my list at Target. In the evening I started reading a new book my mom gave me on Friday (Bittersweet by Shauna Niequist – would highly recommend and I’m only three chapters in), updated a scrapbook I started for Chris last year on his birthday, and made my super exciting (not) grocery list for the week.

I also had some delicious rosé that Chris brought home for me. I am typically a dark, red wine fan, but do like dry rosé and Sauvignon Blanc in the summer, too. And of course champagne. And prosecco. So I like a lot of wine is what I’m trying to say.

We are loosely following the Tone It Up Seven-Day Slimdown, although we are adding (or subtracting) our own flair to it. Essentially it is just very clean eating – no dairy, no alcohol, no added sugar, high protein, and tons of water, fruit, and green vegetables. Not fun and not something I do often, but we’ve both been feeling like we need a reset lately and just happened to have this week free of any commitments that would tempt us to have a glass of Cabernet or some Flamin’ Hot Cheetos (probably my two favorite things in the world).

Sunday consisted of church, a Costco run, meal prepping, cleaning the house, an afternoon workout, making some mahi mahi and asparagus for dinner, and watching a lot of Criminal Minds – AND watching literally only the halftime show of the Superbowl to see Lady Gaga. SO. GOOD.

Although my days are pretty mundane lately, I secretly love it. It’s nice to not really have much going on right now and to have time to just be.

What was the most exciting and least exciting thing you did this weekend?

Favorite wine?
