Hello! Even though the weekend just flew by for me, I am in a great mood this morning and am really looking forward to the upcoming week. I actually feel like we had a really good mixture of relaxing and fun activities out over the last few days, and it was so nice to incorporate both into a weekend for a change. I feel like I have been so all or nothing lately, with literally not leaving the house over the weekend or committing to so many things that there is no time to sit still.
Friday
My Friday was super low-key. I don’t think I left the house once and spent the majority of the day working, reading (I recently started Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis and am absolutely loving it), and taking a short break to go for a walk in the sunshine. It was cold out, but sunny and not windy, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. In keeping with the theme of my lazy day, Chris and I opted to order Chinese food for dinner instead of making the orzo pasta dish I was planning on cooking for us (but I already have all the ingredients and everything prepped now, so it will make for a simple dinner tonight!). Then he was a total champ and spent the rest of the evening watching Grey’s Anatomy with me on the couch. 😉
Saturday
Saturday began the way it always does, with a good workout at the gym. I watched an episode of Grey’s Anatomy (surprise, surprise) while doing 45 minutes of cardio on the elliptical, treadmill, stationary bike, and stairclimber. Then Chris and I both got ready in the locker room and headed right to Costco to do our shopping for the week. For the first time in I think the history of the world we got only what we had on our list. It was a miracle.
From there, we drove to a nearby adorable town (that I actually really want to move to….) where my aunt lives to have lunch with her, her husband, and my grandma. He made the most amazing chicken pot pie (that has mashed potatoes and cheddar cheese in it!) for lunch, and we had so much fun hanging out with all of them for a few hours.
We left there in the late afternoon, stopped to run a few quick errands on the way home, and were then back home and in pajamas by 6 p.m. WILD. Since we ate lunch at a weird time, neither of us were particularly hungry for dinner, so instead I decided to use up some of the apples we had in the house and make a simple apple crisp to have with vanilla ice cream. Pretty sure it was healthy since it was made with three apples?
Sunday
Our Sunday was a little different than usual since I woke up not feeling so great, so we skipped the whole church thing. Instead, I went back to bed for a while, read some of my book, drank some tea, took a long shower, and was eventually feeling much better. While I was having a lazy morning, Chris was totally awesome and went to go do our grocery shopping for the week. That was such a huge help to me.
The rest of the morning/early afternoon was spent getting stuff done around the house to prepare for the week ahead. I did some laundry, Chris cleaned the garage, we had leftovers for lunch, and I worked on organizing our now fully stocked cupboard and refrigerator. I finally got around to getting ready for the day, and then we left to go walk around the outdoor mall near us and do some shopping.
It was absolutely gorgeous here in Michigan yesterday (sunny and almost 60!), so we took our time walking around outside for an hour or so and wandering in and out of a few stores. It was the best feeling to be outside without being all bundled up in a winter coat. The mall was just packed, and so many people were there walking around their adorable dogs which just made us want one even more than we already do. I am pretty convinced we are going to cave one day soon and just adopt one….
When we were leaving the mall, I had a big craving for cheese (random?) so we stopped at our favorite Italian market on the way home to create a makeshift cheese plate we always order at a wine bar we love. I think we somehow magically bought the exact same ingredients they use, because ours tasted nearly identical to theirs! I was amazed and so, so happy. We enjoyed that back at home while opening all the windows in the house, which was also amazing.
Later in the evening we went over to my parents’ house to have dinner with them and my sister Olivia. My mom made a delicious chicken dish and we brought over a raspberry pie for dessert – so good. After we ate, we hung out with them for a while playing cards and then went back home to read a little bit more and call it an early night.
__________
So anyway, today I am off to get a workout in at the gym this morning, do some work throughout the day, hopefully make some progress on a writing project I am really excited about, and then wait around for a guy to come install a new garage door for us! FINALLY. Long story short, but our garage door broke a while ago (we thought we could fix it for a bit there, but finally caved and realized we couldn’t), so for the last few months I have had to get out of the car to open it each time and I am so ready to not have to do that any longer.
I hope you have a fantastic Monday. 🙂
What was the best part of your weekend? What are you looking forward to this week?
