Good morning! After the last two weeks being really not so great, I am determined to do everything in my power to make this week the best it can possibly be. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again (and I am the biggest hypocrite of this sometimes), but attitude makes all the difference in the world. I’ve convinced myself that if I have a good attitude, everything will go smoothly. So we shall see.
Anyway, this weekend was lovely, like always. I spent so much time with family and friends and eating delicious food, and I am super grateful for that. I really am. I usually think about it the most during yoga, but sometimes I just think about it randomly, too – how happy I am to have the people in my life that I do. The simplest things make me happy, like having a mom who calls me out of the blue to come over for dinner. And for a sister that will lay on the couch and watch trashy TV with me for hours. And for girlfriends that I get to workout with. And for a boyfriend that makes all the little things in life so much more fun. This weekend it was really evident to me just how blessed I am to have those people surrounding me on a daily basis.
Friday
After a pretty chill day at work on Friday, I was so excited to go get a facial at my favorite salon. It was amazing and so relaxing. It is expensive, but I really think it’s worth it to do every once in a while – not only for my sanity (I think it’s better than a massage), but to keep my skin healthy and clear, too.
When I got home, my friend Clare came over to hang out with me for the night. We made cheesy spinach orzo and a snack tray to have along with our Clean Slate Riesling and sat outside on my back porch and talked for hours. She is an amazing baker and chef, so I do my best to make something decent for us when she comes over 😉
When Chris got home from bowling, we moved inside and hung out with him for a while, and ended up going to bed way later than we ever do – like midnight. We are wild.
Saturday
Saturday morning started out my favorite way – breakfast in bed while watching Netflix. Parks and Rec, poppyseed muffins, and black coffee to be exact.
After that we headed to the gym and I took my favorite hot yoga class with my friend Katie. I feel like a broken record saying this all the time, but I think I like that class more and more every week. One of my favorite things is that the instructor typically takes us through three flows and after reviewing each one a few times, he gives us time to go through it on our own. And he always plays great song that are inspirational, yet fun. I always leave the class dripping in sweat, but feeling a million times better than I felt going in.
Saturday afternoon was filled with the usual – cleaning, grocery shopping, and doing laundry. After that Chris and I settled in for a long afternoon/night of watching Shameless, ordering pizza for dinner, and drinking prosecco. It was a rainy, cold weekend in Michigan, so inside activities were the way to go.
Sunday
After some contemplation if we should actually get up early and go to the gym, we decided to head there before church for a quick workout. We were really glad we did (like always) and then headed to church. I volunteered with the kids with my sister Sara and then Sara, Jenna, Chris, and I headed to Olivia’s dance competition about a half hour away. I love my sisters for lots of reasons, one of them being that we all wear matching Converse.
We watched a few dances (Liv did so good), and then she had a long break, so we headed to a local Mexican restaurant that I love to get margaritas, chips and salsa, and some other delicious food.
Jenna and I split chicken fajitas and Chris got some kind of combo platter. We ate pretty quick, because we were heading back to the competition to see one more dance of Olivia’s. After that was over, we headed to a local bar with my family and some of the other families for some snacks and a few more drinks.
As soon as we got home, we got to work on meal prepping. We made blueberry chia muffins, prepped salads for the week, made chickpea salad sandwich filling, chopped up veggies, made quinoa, and packed lunches for tomorrow. After all the Mexican food, it was much needed to get a healthy start to the upcoming week.
We finished off the night with watching some more Shameless, laying out a workout plan for the week, and going to bed early.
_______
Like I said earlier, this is going to be a good week. I just know it. I’m ready to keep my focus on the people and things that matter and let go of everything that’s not in that category. It’s really easy to get swept up into the everyday patterns of life and to forget about the parts that we really care about deep down. My goal for this week is to remember that to-do lists aren’t everything and that I can stray from my plans and still have an amazing time. I think that I oftentimes try to do everything perfectly and don’t leave any time to just be, except for on the weekends. I don’t want to be always just waiting around for the weekend – I want to enjoy the weeks, too.
I hope you all have a great day and start to your week!
What was the best part of your weekend? What are you most looking forward to this week?
