Wow – it’s been a while, yeah? How has it been two weeks since I have written a post?! Life has really been getting away from me lately…I feel like I can’t keep up. BUT, here we are, and coming back to it now is better than nothing in my opinion. 🙂
Anyway, in the spirit of playing catch-up today, here are some highlights from the last couple of weeks:
My sister Jenna came home from college for spring break, and it was so fun to hang out with her for a few days. We went out to lunch, worked out together a bunch, and just hung out. I so miss having all my sisters live in one spot.
We actually had a couple of nice days here in Michigan, so just about every chance we got Chris and I (or I went just by myself during the day) went for a walk around our neighborhood outside. One of my biggest goals when we do finally move is to live in an area where we can walk to cool places and not just around the same loop over and over again.
My girlfriends and I watched the five hours (!!) of The Bachelor finale – obviously. What did you guys think!? I don’t even know where to start with that one…. All I will say is that I am beyond excited for Becca’s season coming up in May – girl deserves some good things coming her way.
Chris and I celebrated (and by celebrated I mean we went to one of our favorite bars for dinner after the gym) our five month wedding anniversary! Although five months isn’t necessarily a number to write home about, it feels like a legitimate amount of time and makes me so happy that we have had such an easy, fun marriage so far.
We had a really, really lazy weekend two weekends ago and did next to nothing except make this delicious snack plate and watch Netflix.
And that’s really about all I can think of for now! We have obviously been leading an enthralling life lately. 😉
But now onto this weekend! I actually have some activities to write about that may interest you that surprisingly don’t involve laying on the couch and eating snacks. 🙂
Friday was a great start to our weekend. I was working, but took a break in the morning to talk on the phone with a good friend of mine that I have known since elementary school that now lives in Florida, and it was great to catch up with her for a while. Then during my lunch hour I went and got a facial, which was very needed and made me feel amazing. Later in the afternoon I started making a much fancier than I usually make dinner for Chris and I’s date night that we are starting to try to implement again weekly.
When he got home from work, he had a big bag for me that immediately got me excited. It had four gourmet cupcakes (chocolate peanut butter, lemon, samoa, and mint bumpy cake) and some of my favorite sour cherry gummies. Now he has set a pretty high standard of what he needs to come home from work with…. 😉 Anyway, I made an Asian-inspired dinner with teriyaki salmon, honey garlic baked and breaded cauliflower, and rice noodles with a hibachi-style sauce. It honestly wasn’t my favorite meal we have ever had, but Chris loved it. The rest of the night was spent watching Les Miserables (I forgot how much I love this movie) and eating a raspberry pretzel layered dessert I had also prepared. Our fat cat Bella felt she needed some, too….
Although we would have loved to not leave the house again on Saturday, we pulled it together and got up at a reasonable time to go get a workout in at the gym. We both admitted we felt much better after moving for a while. After that we went to Starbucks to pick up drinks and breakfast sandwiches and took them to my parent’s house to eat and talk with my mom for a little while. She sent us home with some delicious treats she had left over from a brunch with her friends, too.
Then it was time to hit up Costco, per our usual Saturday morning routine. It was as much of a madhouse as it always is, but we were able to get everything on our list plus some nice sandals in hopes that it will be warm enough to wear them sometime in the near future. The rest of our day was pretty chill and included eating lunch at home, a relaxing afternoon, and running a few more errands at the outdoor mall near us.
On Sunday we started the day out with church like usual, and I surprisingly didn’t have a hard time waking up with the less hour of sleep like I usually do. After church I volunteered with the kids for a while and Chris got some work done, and then since we were so hungry upon leaving we made an impromptu decision to stop at California Pizza Kitchen for lunch on the way home. After that we wandered around Target for a bit, mainly looking for things we wanted but didn’t need, and then went home to get ready for the week ahead and relax.
__________
In January and February I chose to focus on a couple of different books that I was reading and how they were affecting my life, and I’m not going to do that again this month. I don’t feel like I got out of it what I wanted to, and I realized that I like reading just for me – not to prove something to myself or others. Lately I have been reading a lot of mindless fiction, which is such a great way to get out of my head and into a different world. Maybe one day I will return to that series, but at least not for the month of March.
Looking ahead at this upcoming week, I actually have a ton on my calendar – a lot of random appointments and lunch dates with friends scattered throughout the week and a few things going on at night, too. That is so rare, but I’ll pretend I stay up later than 8:30 pm and can handle it. 😉
What have you been up to lately? What was your favorite thing you did this weekend?
