Bridal Shower & Brunch

Writer's picture: AdminAdmin

Good morning! Happy Monday. 🙂 How was your weekend? I hope it was wonderful. Mine really could not have been better. And I am surprisingly chipper for a Monday and actually looking forward to this week ahead, mainly thanks to some *potential but probably* exciting developments at work and some fun, random plans interspersed throughout the next couple of days. But onto a recap of the weekend…..

Friday

I was originally feeling really ambitious for a Friday night and was planning on going to the gym (and even wrote out a really intense bootcamp workout to do) and then coming home and making a nice dinner for Chris and I, but the weather was way too nice out. So we decided to go for a little walk around the neighborhood and then come home to have happy hour with our neighbor Alice. I was a little disappointed in myself that I didn’t make it to the gym since I knew I was going to have a busy weekend of celebrating ahead, but oh well. Our night ended up being just lovely. A few glasses of rosé and some brie/onion/garlic toasts later, we decided to head inside and make some actual food. Pinterest gave us a really tasty recipe for a creamy artichoke pan-fried chicken and zucchini chips that were okay, but not my favorite. I’m sure you can guess what followed that…..Desperate Housewives.

Saturday

Saturday morning I was up bright and early to get ready for my bridal shower! I will do an actual recap post of the whole thing, but for now a few little highlights will have to do:

  1. My mom and bridesmaids could not have done a better job planning out every last detail and making sure it was a day that I would be comfortable with, but still feel special. I’ve mentioned it before, but attention gives me anxiety, so I wanted something that allowed all my favorite women to get together but didn’t leave me overwhelmed. And they went above and beyond to make that happen. <3

  1. The food was amazing. My mom and grandma made all the brunch food, and one of my bridesmaids, Rosaria, took care of the mimosa bar. Clare (another bridesmaid) made a whole dessert spread, which was just phenomenal. She is so talented.

  1. The decorations were too cute. My mom made all these beautiful wine bottles to use at my shower and wedding as part of the centerpieces, and my sister, Olivia, made this adorable little sign for Chris and I to take home.

  1. My mom is the most amazing lady I know. She put so much time and effort to making sure this was a perfect day for me, and I really cannot even begin to thank her enough. I feel so lucky that she is mine. <3 And if you can’t tell from the pictures, she hosted the whole shower at my parents’ house.

  1. Chris showed up right at the end as most people were leaving to hang out with me and my bridesmaids in the pool for the rest of the day (all of his groomsmen had a prior commitment and couldn’t make it). The shower really made the fact that we are getting married start to feel real. In the best way.

Once everybody had left, my bridesmaids, Chris, my parents, and I hung out in the pool playing games and having a few drinks for a couple of hours before ordering pizza for dinner and eventually calling it a night.

It was such a wonderful, special day with the people I love the most. <3

Sunday

Sunday was a much more low-key day than Saturday was. I met Clare first thing in the morning for another Pure Barre class that was somewhat different than the class we took the other day, but similar enough that I kind of felt like I knew what I was doing this time around.

After class we walked a few blocks to a new brunch spot called The Chapman House to consume back all the calories we had just burned. The building was cool enough in itself (we actually took a few of our engagement pictures in front of it!), but the food was even more impressive. And somehow there was magically no wait for a table outside on the patio – the weather could not have been more perfect!

The menu had so many good choices, but eventually we settled on a couple of mimosas, an omelet for me and eggs for her, and some ricotta doughnut holes to split.

Our food was so good. The tomatoes, onions, and arugula in my omelet were so fresh and delicious, but the doughnut holes were absolutely to die for. And the mimosas were basically just a glass of champagne with a splash of fresh-squeezed orange juice – my favorite kind.

Once I got home, Chris and I were in for the day. We spent a few hours sitting out on the porch reading, some time watching Desperate Housewives, and some time getting our lives together for the upcoming work week. And then of course we watching the new episode of Game of Thrones before going to bed.

__________

Like I said before, I am determined that this is going to be a great week! I feel like I have spent a lot of time lately complaining about my current situation, and it’s time to take some active steps to fix the things I am not happy with (mainly work). I am reading a couple of great books right now – The Four Agreements and What Remains – that are helping me to remember what the important things are in life. I also received these gorgeous flowers from a good friend at my shower over the weekend, and it may sound silly but having them on my coffee table to stare at really helps me to remember to look for the beauty in life, too. Fresh flowers are a huge luxury in our house (we really have to watch them, because our jerk cats like to eat them), so when I have them around I am reminded of how good they make me feel.

How was your weekend? What did you do? Do you often have fresh flowers around or are they a once-in-a-while kind of thing for you?
