A Quiet Last Week + Our Weekend

Hey! Long time no see. So, I totally fell off the face of the earth last week. I wasn’t feeling great, work was busy, and I had a bunch of random plans/appointments that kept me running all over the place. At the beginning of the week, I tried to force myself to sit down and write, but then I realized that was ridiculous. Writing should (and is, for the most part) be something that I do for fun and for myself – not just another item to add to my to-do list. I have struggled with this a lot in the past, but am finally realizing when I just need a little break to get my life in order. So that is exactly what I took advantage of last week, and now I am actually excited to sit down and tell you guys about what’s been going on in my life lately (which, don’t get too excited, isn’t very much haha).

There isn’t too much that happened last week worth mentioning except for a few things:

  1. I got my mom to go to a cycle class with me, which was a blast. She never really does anything other than yoga and walking, so it was fun to do something different with her.

  2. Three of my girlfriends and I finally found time in our schedules to all get together for brunch. It was so great to spend a few hours together eating good food and catching up on life.

  3. We got a ton of snow late in the week and Chris got to work from home for the last 1.5 days of the week, so I feel like I’ve seen him a million hours lately. The snow was one of the reasons we spent so much time at home last week/over the weekend.

Our weekend wasn’t all that exciting either, but I’ll share it with you anyway. 😉

We originally had plans on Friday night with my dad and sister, but they ended up getting cancelled because of the snow storm, so instead we spent the evening at home eating leftovers, watching The Following, and playing Rummikub. If you are looking for a simple, competitive game that really makes you think, you should totally get this. We love it so much. We play it at home together a lot, but we also play it just about every time we get together with my family. We even had a tournament of it at Christmas this year….

I think Saturday was our busiest day in I don’t know how long! Oddly, we both woke up very early for a weekend day, so I read in bed for a while before we left for the gym around 8:30am. A good workout was very necessary after doing basically nothing but sit on the couch for the two days prior. I did a mixture of cardio and upper body/core. We showered and got ready there and then hit up Costco for a few things we needed, and a bunch of random purchases that happened on the spot. My favorite purchase was these grapefruit flavored sparkling waters. They are Costco-brand, so obviously economically priced, and actually have real grapefruit flavor that doesn’t taste artificial. After that we went to Starbucks for breakfast and mapped out our plan for the day while we ate. Our plan was to go check out a bunch of different potential neighborhoods to build our future house in!

The weather was still pretty crappy on Saturday, so we had plenty of privacy while driving through neighborhoods and touring model homes. I think we have narrowed it down to two spots we like the best, but we are still up in the air about a bunch of different floor plans. It’s crazy how many little details need to go into a home, and we haven’t even gotten to most of them yet. Even though we are a while out from actually starting the building process, it is so exciting to get a start on things. It makes it feel more real.

Once we were finished house hunting, we made one more stop at the grocery store before heading home, unpacking all of our stuff, and falling asleep on the couch for about two hours. When you’re used to laying low at home, a busy day like that takes a lot out of you. 😉 I actually woke up from my nap feeling pretty horrible, so we decided to really add to our lazy afternoon by getting carryout spicy buffalo wings and their amazing french fries from one of our favorite local restaurants. It was just about the only thing that sounded good to me, and it made both of us so happy.

Sunday morning we woke up to a mixture of rain/sleet/snow/ice, so that made for a not-so-fun drive to church. I am glad we went though, because the message was a great one about the phases of parenting a child, even if they aren’t your biological children. After service I volunteered with my girls for a while and then we talked with my dad for a bit before heading home and making an impulse decision to stop at Jimmy John’s for sandwiches on our way. We didn’t have the healthiest nutrition this weekend, that’s for sure.

The rest of Sunday was spent taking care of a few more new house related items, getting things done around the house to prep for the upcoming week, watching some of our current favorite Netflix show (The Following), and eventually making some Costco macaroni and cheese for dinner. I told you – not a healthy weekend in the slightest, but it sure was delicious. Later on Sunday evening I went to my friend Katie’s house for a book club we are starting up and then crashed immediately upon getting home.

__________

Last week I mentioned that I wanted to focus on selfless love, which is a concept discussed in my book for this month – Of Mess and Moxie by Jen Hatmaker. And to be honest, I completely forgot about this as soon as I wrote my post. As I mentioned above, the week just got away from me, and I really have no explanation for it other than that. So instead, I am redirecting my focus for this week towards that selfless love concept. And how appropriate, seeing as Valentine’s Day is in just a couple of days. We shall see how this goes. 😉

I’ve got another busy week coming up, again with a lot of appointments and work things on the calendar, along with plans with quite a few friends. I feel like I have been spending so much time at home lately (which I do love for the most part!), so I am excited to have a bunch of things on the calendar this week that will get me out of the house.

Have a wonderful Monday. 🙂

How was your weekend?
